Rescued For Freedom
Psalm 91:14-16 NIV
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.” – Psalm 91:14 NIV
Life can be tough and often times it can feel as if we are imprisoned by our burdens. Moses was well aware of the strife caused by a heavy burdened life. Although he was raised as a prince of Egypt, he was eventually driven into exile after reacting to the unfair treatment of the Israelite slaves by the Egyptian guards. While in exile, Moses came to know God and by his faith, God used Moses to deliver the Israelites from slavery.
God desires to rescue each and every one of us from a heavy burdened life and slavery to sin. In His word, He promises to do so, and has fulfilled that promise by sacrificing His only son, Jesus Christ, on the cross for our salvation. While God has rescued us, calling us to freedom in Christ, it’s important to know that we MUST respond to this call. In Psalm 91 God reminds us that this freedom isn’t for everyone, but only for those who love Him, acknowledge Him, and call on Him.
Sometimes it takes what feels like exile to do this. When we feel the most alone, most broken, and most abandoned, we realize that the one we have needed all along has been right there, waiting for us to acknowledge and call on Him. Making God our first love and putting our full trust in Him allows to experience the fullness of freedom that He is calling us too. When we love God with all of our heart, Jesus becomes Lord over our lives and we began to align ourselves with His will as opposed to our own. Our burdens become lighter because we know that God is now in control. He will be w
ith us! He will protect us! He will rescue us for freedom in Christ!
How we love God and trust in Him will determine whether or not we experience His freedom. But remember, it’s all or nothing! Christ gave His life for our freedom, in return, we must give God our love, our desires and our life to receive the freedom He calls us too!
Question to Consider: Who or what do I love more than God? What is hindering me from putting Him first and what will it take to reprioritize my life?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to love you first and acknowledge you as the Lord of my life. Help me to respond to your call and experience true freedom in you! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
